{"id":2469,"date":"2017-01-09T07:18:32","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T07:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bioeng.nus.edu.sg\/mm\/?p=2469"},"modified":"2017-01-09T07:18:32","modified_gmt":"2017-01-09T07:18:32","slug":"bn2204","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.labren.org\/mm\/teaching\/bn2204\/","title":{"rendered":"BN2204 FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOMECHANICS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>BN2204\u00a0FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOMECHANICS<\/div>\n<div>2016\/2017, Semester 2\u00a0 Engineering (Biomedical Engineering)<\/div>\n<p>Modular Credits: 4 Class Size: 95<\/p>\n<h4>Learning Outcomes<\/h4>\n<div>The module aims to introduce students to the applications of engineering statics and dynamics to perform simple force analysis of the musculoskeletal system; give an appreciation of kinematics and kinetics of human motions; apply the fundamentals of mechanics, i.e. stress and strain in biological systems, shear force, bending moment and torsion.<\/p>\n<p> At the end of this course, students should be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Draw free body diagrams and identify unknown reaction forces and moments<\/li>\n<li>Solve statically determinate problems involving rigid bodies, pin-jointed structures<\/li>\n<li>Understand the concepts of engineering stress, strain and materials behaviour<\/li>\n<li>Determine the load distributions and corresponding stresses and strains in structures under tension, shear, compression, torsion and bending<\/li>\n<li>Design structures to prevent failure including buckling<\/li>\n<li>Describe the anatomical structures of the major joints and spine of a human body and relate to body movement and functions<\/li>\n<li>Analyze the kinematics &amp; kinetics of human movement<\/li>\n<li>Explain the time dependent behavior of human movement<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Prerequisites<\/h4>\n<p>PC1431 Physics IE<\/p>\n<h4>Teaching Modes<\/h4>\n<div class=\"panel-body\">Module will consists of Lectures, Tutorials, Labs and Continual Assessment (CA) where:<\/p>\n<div>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 CA will comprise term papers\/quizzes (20%) and lab assignments (30%).<\/div>\n<div>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As such, total CA will constitute 50% of the total marks.
